IMPORTANT TO NEW STUDENTS’ WHO WILL JOIN MZUMBE UNIVERSITY...!!STUDENTS ACCOMMODATION POLICY

1.0. Introduction
1.1. Rationale for Students’ Accommodation Policy at Mzumbe University.
When
the former Institute of Development Management (IDM)
was
transformed
in
to Mzumbe University
(MU) in 2002, there was
no
a
ccommodation proble
m for students because population was only 1150.
The students were staying comfortably, two students in a room. However,
the students’ population
has
continued to grow
to 4,916 in 2012/13
academic year for the main campus alone. The stu
dents population at
Mbeya campus has likewise increased rapidly from 300 in 2005 to 1700
in 2012/13 academic year. This growth has resulted into students
accommodation problems since rate of enrollment does not tally with the
rate of expanding hostels at
both campuses.
To address the shortage of rooms and as short term measures, the
University converted some of the staff houses into students’ hostels and
added more beds in all hostel rooms. The University also adopted a
staggered semester system as well
as construction of one additional
hostel for female students. These measures have not completely solved
the problem since there is still a shortage of more than 2,000 beds at the
Main Campus and 1,300 at Mbeya Campus for 2012/13 academic year
.
The avail
able rooms in the hostels have been allocated using some
unwritten policy based on some inherited rules (from the era of IDM),
such as first come, saved first. However, this situation has been causing
complaints from a number of students and other key sta
keholders. In
order to address the
above anomalies, Directorate of Students Welfare in
collaboration with students’ representatives through MUSO have come
out with this Policy
1
to guide provision of students’ accommodation
services.

Facebook Tests Tool To Make Mobile Payments

Facebook plans to test a new service aimed at making it easier for users to make purchases on their mobile devices.
The social networking site is exploring ways to allow people to make purchases with just their Facebook login on partnering e-commerce mobile apps.
The service would use payment information that shoppers store on Facebook to automatically complete checkout forms of certain apps.
The app would then handle the payment processing, not Facebook.
Facebook confirmed in a statement that it was working on a "very small test" designed to "make it easier and faster for people to make a purchase in a mobile app by simply pre-populating your payment information".
But the company said there was no timetable for making the service available to its customers.
If rolled out, the new payment system would pit Facebook in direct competition with PayPal, as well as e-commerce firms like Braintree.
PayPal Promises Smartphone 'Mobile Wallets'
News of the test hit PayPay's shares
Spokeswoman Tera Randall said in a statement that Facebook has a "great relationship with PayPal, and this product is simply to test how we can help our app partners provide a more simple commerce experience".
The test, she added, would not involve moving payment processing "away from an app's current payments provider, such as PayPal".
Nonetheless, shares of PayPal's owner, eBay Inc fell on news of the potential competition. The stock closed down $1.05, or 1.9%, at $53.18.
Facebook's stock closed down nine cents at $36.56.
Forrester Research analyst Denee Carrington believes Facebook will face an uphill challenge in offering mobile payments even though the company has been building up its database of users' credit cards.
"Consumers want safe, seamless and convenient mobile payments and there are a growing number of competitors that consumers trust more - such as PayPal, Visa (V.me) and others," he said.

Premier League: Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants fans to focus on the team

Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho has called on the club's fans to focus on supporting the team after a rousing reception on his return to Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese boss accepted the plaudits of the supporters before, during and after Sunday's routine 2-0 victory over Hull City, but now feels the players should be given more backing.
He told Sky Sports: "It was fantastic, it is something you don't forget. It makes me think I made the right move by coming back - I am one of them, so I am so pleased and so happy.
"But I think it is enough. I need my team to be supported. I need them to sing my players' names, I need them to push Chelsea all the way. Enough Mourinho and come on Chelsea.
"I know they love me, that is one of the reasons why I am back, but now it is my time to work for them and for them to support the team."
Jose Mourinho
"I know they love me, that is one of the reasons why I am back, but now it is my time to work for them and for them to support the team."
Oscar and Frank Lampard found the net in the first half against the Tigers, with the England midfielder also seeing an early penalty saved as the hosts threatened to run riot.
Hull improved after the break as Chelsea's intensity dipped, but Mourinho was more than happy with the opening 45 minutes from his side.
He added: "There is no doubt we deserved the victory. It was a brilliant first half with high intensity, high quality, great movement, great football.
"With the first half, it is no surprise that the second half could not be the same because the first was outstanding.
"The intensity of our game went down because our pre-season was not an easy one and this week most of our players were involved with their international teams.
"The game was always under control, but in the second half the quality of our game went down a bit. I am happy with the victory and I am happy because what we did in the first half was good.
"Our creative players had very good understanding, very good movement and I think the football was brilliant. If we had been 3-0 or 4-0 ahead at half-time it would not be surprising."

Eid Mubarak to all Muslims around the world, may the blessings of Allah be with you today, tomorrow, and always.

What Is Ramadan

In order to understand and appreciate Eid, knowing what is Ramadan is essential. Ramadan is a month long fasting and Muslims across the world abstain from drink, food, and physical activity during daylight hours as the day is spent purifying the soul and focusing on God. By the way, fasting is obligatory to all Muslims except the diabetic, pregnant and sick. Keep in mind that fasting is part of the five pillars and begins at dawn then ends at sunset. The people do not just fast from foods but also from sex, bad behavior, and work.

As You Pray To Allah,
And Offer Your Sacrifices
In The True Spirit Of Eid-ul-adha,
Here’s Hoping That All Your Wishes
Be Fulfilled And Prayers Be Granted!
Aameen & Happy Eid.
